A collection of poems written during a pilgrimage to Lindisfarne. A group of companions from St Michael’s Church, Alcombe, were sharing a retreat. For Jenny at least, the unique island, the sunshine and stillness warmed and nourished the pilgrimage of the heart.
Lindisfarne is a tidal island on the northeast coast of England. Known as ‘Holy Island’ it has a recorded history from the 6th century AD and was important to Celtic Christians like St Aidan of Lindisfarne, St Cuthbert, St Eadfrith and St Eadberht of Lindisfarne. After the Viking invasions and the Norman conquest of England, a priory was re-established. A small castle was built on the island in 1550.
